Robert and Lisa Obst started Blue and Gold Koi Farm 15 years ago after 35 years of owning Bobs Pet Shop in New Jersey. After years of discussion and planning they decided to uproot their lives and start a koi farm in the beautiful Virginia countryside. Their koi journey began with a simple purpose: To breed and produce the healthiest and most beautiful domestic koi in the United States. They spoke with some of the most well known Japanese Koi importers and breeders throughout the world and obtained an unbelievable stock of Japanese breeders.  They spend each year breeding and fine tuning the blood lines that flow straight from Japan. Throughout the years they have worked closely with other breeders, importers, enthusiasts and health experts to enhance the health and quality of these amazing creatures. The Obst’s work closely with the State of Virginia and undergo vigorous health screenings year after year to ensure their fish are of the highest health for their customers. Their life is not just breeding and selling koi, but they live to promote the health and natural beauty of these aquatic gems; and their customers know advice and answers are always just a phone call away.
